The Mailman

Looking through the window, she stares at the path wondering if it will arrive as mentioned in the UPS tracking information.

Her feeble eyes look at the volume of the bottle, and she is in a dilemma  if she should take the last dose or leave it for a time that is crucial?

Ever since the insurance peaked up the prices for the drugs that she had been taking on a regular basis, she has been relying on the mailman.

Just then the doorbell rang, and that prompted her first to take her scheduled dose before receiving her package.

When the heart aches after a change...

Change is a word that makes our earth spin around the sun, and we see dusk and dawn at every few hours interval. Thus, making none of us bored of the constant weather or the time.

Change is the language spoken when an infant turns into a toddler and eventually changes to a preteen then teen, which is followed by an adult and then growing old. This Change is inevitable, and we all have embraced it well by comparing pictures of us a child to an adult, and getting amused over the development seen so far.

Change is necessary!

Change is imminent, and we cannot do anything about it cause the moment we are born, this alteration is happening around us, but somehow there are some areas where we want life to halt. We want that to stay constant, more so since memories are associated with it, and we need to keep that candle burning to have that support around us, 24*7.

Yes, you guessed it right!

Relationships!

We want a certain affiliation to be around us, forever!
We want the support and love and guidance of our parents or a loved one so that we are never left out in a crowd, and never asked to make a decision all on our own. We want that someone to be always holding our pinkie even though we are ourselves aged and wrinkled.

Changes happening in a relation are torturous since memories are associated with it, and it can distress an individual and give him pain for losing a somebody that he wants to be around.

But then change is the law of nature!

Change cannot be partial or else there will a catastrophe. Man will not understand the responsibility, and thus will not be accountable for their actions since they will always be  leaning upon that someone.
We ought to grow so that he can allow the chain of events to happen, and it will follow suit.

As I embrace the change today, I will apply the balm to sedate my ached heart that weeps over the memories accumulated over the years. I will let go of the individual who carved a path of awareness and understanding towards life and the higher energy thus, helping me lay a foundation of enlightenment, which I will pass along to the coming generation, when the time comes!

Mantra for today: Change is inevitable, and it teaches us all to be responsible one day or the other.

Wordless Wednesday #56

A charcoal drawing of a mother holding her baby!

Just a mere sketch, but speaks a thousand words that symbolize love, care, tenderness, and a yearning that never fades away!

Mantra for today: “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”
― Washington Irving

Spotlight and Review of Collection of Chaos by Tikuli

Blurb:

(From the foreword by Kris Saknussemm) As with all the poets I most admire, words are living things for Tikuli. But as you will come to discover, they are never deployed for their own sake. She uses them to tell stories. The images, scenes, characters and fragments of visionary empathy that you will find in this book are all rooted in her native India-and yet they reach out far beyond national and cultural boundaries. They do so because they have an interior cohesion of spirit. Her subjects are often the dispossessed, the lost...the abused. There are undercurrents of sorrow and anger. And yet love shines through, even when it seems to be fading away. Above all, there's a powerful sense of hope at work-a conviction in the redemptive strength of poetry.

My Review

Collection of Chaos is a collection of poems by Tikuli who has been able to bring out all the utter confusion of the mere existence of mankind by opening the pandora box, which has been avoided by its sheer ugliness or the fact that we have chose to ignore it since it causes nothing but sheer disarray in our lives.

I am not a poet, but admired the crisp words generated by the author, however; sometimes found it tough to connect the dots cause of no title especially those poems that ended abruptly thus, leaving me out of tune. I had to pause, rewind and then try to bridge the gap to make sense.

I also felt some ideas were repetitive, and could have been avoided. But then since that subject is, usually, far under the covers, maybe it needed more attention. Thus, I will give the author credit over it, but as a reader who could echo with the chaos in our society; I wanted more topics to be unleashed. Thus, giving a turmoil within me as I craved for more.

The title of this book is appropriate since even though it is a collection of chaos, it is a reflection of us as human beings and our society that we have created. Thus, inviting individuals to peek into it, and get a flavor of what we have built.

How much Education can make you a literate?

As the Learned say, Education is one investment that will never go waste.

But, I wonder how much education is enough to make you a literate, and cultured enough to stand in a crowd and yet be confident of the decisions you made?

Although, a man should be open to learning at any age, should he be earning a degree after the degree to get the label of a wise man? Sometimes, common sense and being in the right place at the right moment can do wonders for some. Luck also plays a prominent role in those who aim high. Examples are many that literally a site has been dedicated for college dropouts who have dared to touch the sky. Now, I am not encouraging anyone to drop out of college just to test drive their luck. But, with the increasing costs for everything, there is no harm in introspecting the courses one has enrolled in and finding his worth, passion or his future?  Nothing comes for free, thus taking loans to get a degree that will be the pride of your glass cabinet while you stress day in and out to work towards the payment of the credit makes no sense! Thus, next time when you get an enrollment form for a particular course; dig within and find something that we all have in common, which is not that common since we hardly use it, but it prevails! Common Sense!

There are people with degrees stacked up, and still not have the fundamental sense of living or dealing with pesky neighbors or relatives or any practical matter.

It is a good sense that enables judgment in practical matters and gives an individual the capability to be savvy and street smart.

Research has indicated that it is within all, but seldom do we tweet within and try to learn from our experiences and combine it with the wisdom we have attained from a mere degree!

Mantra for today: Common sense is not common, but it would make a lot of sense if understood.

An Experience that made me a patron!

Horns are blasting, and brakes are screeching as I swear, pray, urge to my cab driver while constantly glaring at my watch.

Finally, we reached the destination. I had the exact change, tossed it at him, and dashed towards the airline check-in. In spite of my repeated pleas, the lady at the reception kept saying sorry!

Finally, I give in!
I accepted that I missed my flight.

Now what!

I take a few sips of water from the faucet, and pull out my phone and dial my travel agent's number. It was late, but since she was my neighbor, I could disturb her any hour, after all that's what neighbors are for: to be of help when in need!

She seemed half asleep, and honestly I was downright rude and came to the point, "Sarita, I have missed my flight, thanks to some rally of some minister. I need to reach Los-Angeles and what are my options?"

"Well, good morning to you too!" she was blunt.
I did not care.
After a pause, she started looking up for the next available flight.
"I have Lufthansa leaving in approximately 4 hours. They have only a few seats available. Should I book you on that?"

"Hello! you did not get me? I want to go to the city in America not in Germany." I blasted my voice into the phone thinking that she must be half asleep.

"Pervez, I know where you have to go!" she shouted back.

I realized we both were not going anywhere with these loud outcries. I took a deep breath and apologized. She narrated the itinerary to me, while texting me at the same time. I was directed to go to the airline to check in after completing the obligation of booking, payment and confirmation.

I checked in with a heavy heart while only eyeing at the destination.

After the customs, I went in a cafe and bought all the vegetarian items I could see at that hour. A German flight could not cater to my needs, I thought so it is better to armor myself with lots of food so that I don't keep waging my tongue at my companion's tray, I thought.

After waiting in the lounge for an another thirty minutes, I was asked to board the flight.
I got up like a kid thumping my foot, not wanting to go, but then after realizing my important meeting in L.A I thought of letting this phase out and just focus on my goal.

As I entered the aircraft, I was greeted in a local language, I was quick to turn and saw the air hostess with a smile and hands joined together as a courtesy. I could not resist; I did the same.
Such is the power of a namaste!

I felt so much lighter.

After being assisted to my seat, I sank in, more so cause I realized how tired I was after the running, shouting, and coming to terms with destiny!

After the short video of safety and all, the flight departed from the soils of Delhi, India.

While rubbing the temples of the forehead, I was lazily clicking through their channels, and to my delight saw many movies and shows that were known to me. I sat up straight as if life had sprung into me, and as I put on the earphones, I started opening the wrapping of one of my eats that I purchased from the bistro.
Just then I was interrupted by a gentle "Excuse me" I looked up to see a plate of food. The aroma and the distinctive smell seemed well-known, and that made me peep into the contents of the tray, and was delighted to see vegetarian food.

"What! You serve Asian vegetarian food?" I said out loud.

The air hostess's expression was priceless, but I did not care.

I quickly opened my table tray, and starting digging in. Did not realize I was famished until that spoon of basmati rice with the delectable garbanzo beans went into my mouth.

Ummm!

What was I thinking? This flight is more Indian that I could think of!

An individual when in the air, just longs for smiles, friendliness, comfort food, entertainment that is closer to his heart, and a cordial ambience. The fares are reasonable with just a halt of ~2-3 hours thus making a traveller reach his destination in comfort without missing his home!

Lufthansa, you have a patron here!

Mantra for today: Never evaluate a book by its cover!

A Yellow Boat

Charles was wading in water on a summer afternoon, with thoughts keeping him company, when a boat at a distance caught his attention.

After focusing hard, he realized that the yellow boat was drifting towards the shore with no anchor. Curious, he started walking towards the riverside, and waited patiently for it to arrive.

Just then he jumped in fear, as he heard a  loud bang.

He turned towards that direction, to see fireworks in the sky and a group of known faces appear on the yellow boat in the river with joyful and perky birthday wishes for him.
