Wordless Wednesday #48

When Brown is the new Green motto, it is time to conserve and sustain whatever we have left of it.

California is facing a drought, and conservation of water is the new mantra.

Honestly, sustaining is not a foreign word for me, but to teach the kids needs a special knack of patience and poise.

Mantra for today: Patience is an underrated virtue. One who has attained it; will stay undefeated in whatever he has carried out!

The Spotlight

Confident Joan was partially up from the seat but plops down in confusion upon hearing a different name.

While in introspection, a disorientated Joan forces a smile to congratulate her associate.

"What! How come?" her mind was asking a zillion questions.

Soon her name was announced, and she got up to answer a few questions about the project.

After replying with confidence, and enjoying the partial limelight, she seated herself while her partner got all the drilling.

“Aha! loved this kind of spotlight. At least it spared me those grueling questions” she chuckled.

A Mind over Body event

Rosie stares at the path that is well lit and has signs all over.
   
She takes a deep breath and walks gingerly towards the starting line while mumbling to herself, “I have to do this for myself to make a better tomorrow, and moreover, it is just a mind over body thing.”
   
In a few minutes, the ribbon is cut, and the flag is waved.
 
The crowd cheers.
   
Rosie waits up patiently for her turn to cross the offset point and open a new chapter by abandoning all her fears and apprehensions of being disabled for over a year.

Is it too Late?

Marlin quietly opened the door and was shocked to see his kid and wife laying on the couch with a cake on the table.

He looked at his calendar and brushed his brows in a pensive mood while cursing himself since the deadline at work made him miss out on another important event at home. 

Assured family once again to be around, and they accept his apology and continue with the celebration. 

Episode repeated again and again to which the family gets fed up, and packs and leaves his home for good.

Just then the phone rings, Marlin frowns upon the number nevertheless answers it, and to his astonishment makes him spring up from his chair and drive to an address where vehicles with luminous lights are parked neatly with their sirens muted near the vicinity.

Got a chance to visit Rodeo Dr in Los Angeles CA.

The tourist guide informed me that it was the world's most-expensive street cause of the designer stores. Sure, I walked this road of fame since it was bustling with $$$$, but found most of the shops empty. 'wonder how these stores survive!

Anyways! coming to the point.

What makes a street worth billions or go down the gutter is in our hands!

     Thus begins the story between Rahul and Meghna, the teasing, the flirting, the anger, the tears… …will they find love?

Review

Meghna is a story about a young girl in her twenties who lost her parents quite early in her life, but fortunately, she is sheltered by her elder brother (Sanjay) who is settled by then thus, allowing her to stay in that fantasy land of me-myself. 

Rahul and Sanjay are good friends since childhood, thus allowing Rahul and Meghna to help create some memories in their teens. 

The story begins to pick up heat when Rahul visits Mumbai and his interactions with Meghna are very detailed thus giving the reader an insight into their personalities. The characters are immature at first, but  gradually learn from what they actually itch from each other, and progress to change within to make them a made-for-each-other couple. 

The author does a good job in delivering  the character's deep sentiments with regards to their thoughts, reflections, and understanding from what they each want from a relationship. 

It is light, swift read, and I would recommend to anybody who can enjoy two young hearts yearning for love, adoration and long term commitment.

The Author's Thoughts

Even as a kid, she absolutely loved the 'lived happily ever after' syndrome as Sundari grew up reading all the fairy tales she could lay her hands on, Phantom comics, Mandrake comics and the like. It was always about good triumphing over evil and a happy end. Soon, into her teens, she switched her attention from fairy tales to Mills & Boon. While she loved reading both of these, she kept visualising what would have happened if there were similar situations happening in India; to a local hero and heroine.

Her imagination took flight and she always lived in a rosy cocoon of romance over the years. Then came the writing - a true bolt out of the blue! She could never string two sentences together. While her spoken English had always been excellent - thanks to her Grandpa - she could not write to save her life. She was bad at writing essays in both school and college. Later, when it was time to teach her kids, she could manage everything from Science to Mathematics and History & Geography.

When it came to writing compositions, her kids found her of no help at all. All this changed suddenly one fine day in the year 2000. She had just quit her job at a school's office and did not know what to do with her life. She was saturated with simply reading books. That's when she got home one evening after her walk and took some sheets of paper and began writing. It was like watching a movie that was running in her head - all those years of visualising Indian heroes and heroines needed an outlet and had to be put into words. That's how her first novel, The Malhotra Bride, took shape.

While she felt discouraged when publishing did not happen, it was her husband who kept encouraging her not to give up. There was no looking back after that. While publishing took a long time happening, Sundari continued to write novels and then short stories. Her luck turned when Indireads approached her to write for them and Double Jeopardy was born.

Now it’s all about self-publishing her books on Amazon. She has published The Malhotra Bride (2nd Edition) and Meghna so far while planning to publish her fourth book - The Runaway Bridegroom -  in September 2014.
