When your dreams are tainted with lies and deceit, you have no other choice but to walk to the other end of the corridor
Leela has nothing extraordinary about her except the dream to become famous. Her desires take wings when she gets married to a handsome boy from a respectable family in Delhi. But her dreams are shattered even before they have a chance to take flight.
She happens to meet two friends from a long forgotten past, which infuses hope and opens new avenues to realize her dormant aspirations.
Leela delves into previously unexplored paths of deception and forbidden passions that only make her stronger.
In an attempt to rediscover herself, she falls in love with life and with herself but her life takes a sudden turn again…
No matter what, Leela will continue to chase her dreams.

This woman went through all the unfair treatment with the hope to see the light at the other end of the tunnel. She endured the beating of her husband, her mother-in-law's (MIL) venomous words, parents alienation and brother's apathy. There was negativity all around her. In spite of her life being shallow and in murky waters, she allowed the lotus to bloom by daring to peep outside her four walls. During this journey, she met her old friends who not only helped her when in physical pain but also uplifted her spirits when she was emotionally and mentally at ground zero. After many years of physical, mental and emotional torture she was free from her husband's shadow, and a sudden turn around of character of her MIL made everything look rosy and hopeful. Even her parents chose to give her company in their retired lives. Gladly she made a career that she had dreamt off and lived happily ever after.
The author Sujata Rajpal has shed light on many elements that the society of India still crepitates thus making it cripple since it allows the weaker sex to undergo so much trauma. Sorrow is such a noun that it leaves all beings emotionally drained and the yearning to see happiness cause after all enough is enough !! Sujata has done an excellent job in narrating the story of Leela Chopra via this book that left me to want the same for her. I rejoiced in her accomplishments at the end and was happy that she could finally see the other end of the corridor.

My Review
The Other End of the Corridor by Sujata Rajpal talks about the journey of a woman, Leela in a middle-class society who dared to dream amidst the 'mis-fortune' of being born as a female, having a dark complexion and having a horoscope that spells only doom (Manglik).

"The corridor, I was walking down didn't have a trace of illumination. I couldn't see the other end. But I kept moving and now, I realize that more than the light, you need the determination to keep moving, keep struggling for your dreams, for your existence, for your survival."
I had lived in a dream world all my life, always blaming the circumstances for my own weaknesses. I could never gather courage to stand up to circumstances. For how long would I keep blaming others for my own shortcomings. And for how long would I keep dreaming- my dreams never aligned with the real world; my dreams and real life never converged at any point. ‘I definitely had experience but only in building castles in the air.’
