About the Author

Deepti Menon has always believed in the power of the pen. Having done her post graduation in English Literature and her B.Ed. in English, she had the option of teaching and writing, and did both with great enjoyment. She started writing at the age of ten, long before she acquired a Diploma in Journalism. She also had the advantage of being an Army kid, and later an Army wife, and loved the idea of travelling around India, meeting new people and acquiring new skills. She firmly believes that much of her personality was honed during those travels.

In 2002, her light hearted book, ‘Arms and the Woman’, depicting life as seen through the eyes of an Army wife, was published by Rupa Publishers, Delhi. This was written mainly to reveal the warmth and camaraderie within the great institution. She is now working on her second book that is a work of fiction, and not- to-be divulged yet!

My Review

His Drunken Wife by Sundari Venkatraman is one of the many published books (have stopped counting books from this author, as I have tagged her as a 'writer who pens as she breathes')

This is a story about unconditional love from Abhimanyu who is a partner in a business firm with Ranveer and falls for his secretary, Shikha. Sparks fly, but when lust was kept on a back burner, there would be conflict and exchange of heated conversation over a subject that would be out of control for Shikha. She is an addict towards alcohol and would land up being drunk in most of the occasions when they would try to mingle with other adults.

The story moves forward as a couple thanks to the absolute dedication from the male protagonist, Abhimanyu. His genuine emotions were forthright but sometimes misunderstood as a reader since justice was not given to the scene. Example: when the secretary Shikha was given work by her new boss, Abhimanyu. The challenges were kept superficial thus, not making the reader actually understand the character, Shikha. The second instance when jealousy was portrayed by Shikha when her ex-boss, Ranveer declared his love for Chanda. That raised confusion since she was already in a relationship with Abhimanyu. Thus making me find her very arrogant, and disconnected and not being able to sympathize with her past as it was not evolved well. Being a novella, each scene should have been downright explicit to get the attention of the reader; unfortunately, the author was in a hurry to resolve things and move further. 

Needless to say kudos to the character, Abhimanyu to help his better half (Shikha) come out of the addiction of alcohol and make her drunk with his love! 

Overall a light, breezy read.

It was at least another half an hour before Shikha returned to the party. She directly walked up to her husband and kissed him on his masculine lips. “Forgive me?” 

Abhi pulled her close, kissing her deeply. “Always.”

“Did I tell you that you’re the best thing that’s happened to me?” she whispered in his ear, nipping at his earlobe. 

“Shikha,” growled Abhi, “Are you even aware of what you’re doing to me? Position yourself in front of me till I gain control or I won’t be responsible for the consequences.”

Shikha gave a tinkling laugh, her hand on his fly, tracing his shape delightedly. “How did I ever imagine you were a staid guy?”

Abhi groaned. “Take your hand off, woman. Please!”

Shikha laughed again, kissing him. “How I love to hear you beg.” She winked at him. 

She turned right around and got a waiter to get her another drink, much to Abhi’s chagrin. “Will you lay off the drink, Shikha?” he frowned. 

“Why? You can’t afford it or what?” she challenged him, a shapely eyebrow up in query, sherry brown eyes dancing. 

“You’ve already had four large pegs.”

“You’ve been counting.” The smile left her face.

“Do you plan to get drunk?”

“Arre yaar, Abhi! It’s our wedding, a once-in-a-lifetime event. I’m only celebrating. Give me a break,” she protested. 

“The way you’ve been knocking down the drinks, anyone would think that you’re in pain rather than celebrating.”

Tra-La-La-La, La-La-La!

This is the tune that has been ringing in our household ever since we passed the Thanksgiving weekend. No doubt the local radio station has also uplifted our moods since Carols play 24*7. Even though they are repetitive but somehow the music is what continues to make me tap my foot as I type this post.


"This holiday season, I hope we all can make a difference in our thoughts, which could bring out positive actions thus leading to beneficial consequences that people can embrace with a smile without wrinkling that forehead or moving their head in sheer disgust."

Reminds me of a famous song by John Lennon!

Holidays are the time when the man can pause, ponder, reflect and correct his actions.

Fortunately, we all get to celebrate holidays each year. But, with each passing year, the resolutions are made, dumped, and forgotten!

The world is getting an intolerant place to live.

We all are partially to be blamed for all that we are facing today.

To stand up, object, raise our voice and/or to choose a path of sanity.

All this requires an individual to be audacious and bold. It sure is not an easy journey especially if we take the plunge.

The dive to erase the ugliness around our society. To jump and hold out a hand in distress. To sweep out the hatred by just a smile and a hug. To dunk and help open the trunk of lies, secrets and help change for the better.

The journey is tough, but the destination will be a pleasant one! Not just for us, but for generations to come.

Tolerance and Mankind go hand in hand.

Are we ready to be the first to take the plunge!

Time to mend our ways and be responsible for the sake of humanity all over the world!

The bell chimes when the door opens. 
This was a usual affair of this restaurant that served an economical menu to anybody and everybody who would walk in. 



But today when the door creaked open, all eyes fell on this individual. The noise of cutlery dimmed. The jaws of many customers dropped as they stared at this person who walked in with confidence. As he stood at the counter waiting to be seated. 
The waitress gave him a dirty look. 
He looked poised and unperturbed. 
"Excuse me, Sir," she said with an acerbic tone, "No Service if No clothes!"
