Going Digital with Cybersecurity Framework

We have come a long way since the 19th century when the first computer was invented by various companies pitching in their respective components especially when Intel conceived the idea of a microprocessor. That made companies like IBM, HP, NEC, Toshiba create their personal computers and fill the market with a variety for man to choose.

Those initial years man was surprised to what length this PC could go to. It could not only store in immense data but also when searched for, it could bring up a particular file just by sitting stationary and not stressing those gray cells over where that particular file is shelved.

Life has taken a turn for the better, and man in urban areas has since then never looked back especially when it came to dealing with his personal work or in the corporate society.

Lately, the Government of India wants to empower every Indian by giving access to their citizen rights and services while providing information on reforms and making a platform for them to interact with the government. The above will enable making welfare quicker and accessible to all while eliminating paperwork. However, this will have to include the creation of digital infrastructure, and in order to deliver services digitally, will have to acquaint the citizens with digital literacy. The Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) will be the custodian of this project and help connect rural areas via broadband thus helping to make the Digital India project accessible country wide.

Many corporates are excited about this new venture, but the government has to overcome quite a few hurdles prior to declaring it a success.

The obstacles are coming in the form of phishing, worms, firewalls, Trojan horses, hackers, viruses, privacy protection, data guardianship, tighter cyber laws to keep e-governance and e-commerce transactions safe. Cyber security is numero uno since all data is online thus making sure the infrastructure is secure and well grounded.

Some preliminary steps to be cautious of in order to make India walk the digital path.

Viruses have a malicious code. Officials should be trained not to open any email attachment or going to particular websites.

Worms can also propagate via email, websites or network-based software. Although they can propagate without doing anything. Caution is the word!

Trojan horse is a software that claims to one thing while it does something different behind the scenes.

Spyware is a sneaky software that comes with the computer when screen savers, games or other applications are being downloaded. Spyware sends information to a third party, thus bring a threat to one's privacy.

The above will have the Government of India play an important role in countering threats to their cyber network by having a 24*7 center to monitor and help secure the civilian system and cyberspace.

However, some good news is in the making for cyber security.

A Cyber security framework is in action by Intel where the company intends to focus on risk management instead of compliance. Their framework has the potential to transform cyber security on a global scale.

Currently in the testing phase but Intel anticipates providing the highest level of structure for organizing basic cyber security activities into categories and subcategories. The five functions are Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. Once the pilot project is a success, this cyber security framework from Intel will be a complete package if installed on the infrastructure by any corporation or government.

Thus giving an opportunity to the Government of India to go digital thanks to the Cyber security Framework from Intel.

Mantra for today: Man is an intelligent soul to find ways to protect himself from a bully even though he is in the realm of electronic communication.

Female Bloggers

Lack of time and distances often make an individual hard to understand. Thus, making communication an important key in all relationships.

Man is a social animal and thrives upon relationships for his mental stability. If today, he does not have time to sit and talk; chances are his tomorrow will be lonely.

I thank my ability to express myself via my words cause if my keyboard and my finger tips would not have been in synch; I would have been a lonely soul.

Again writing without being heard is also depressing. It is like talking in an empty room.

Life offers you bounties in an elusive way. I was blessed to gain my audience via the Social Media and the many groups that could read me out.  This gives a writer/blogger the confidence to advent her journey with assurance of having a backbone to her reflections.

There is a group of dynamic women by the name of Indiblogeshwaris. This group originated from India, my home country, on June 2nd, 2012.
These women are not only dynamic but also play an active role in changing the social front with positivity.

Woman today is being mutilated across the globe but it is woman who stands tall no matter what.

Her sensitivity towards various issues makes her blog dynamic.

Jai ho to all the female bloggers out there!

Mantra for today: Never under estimate the power of a female blogger!

What was your one of the most embarrassing things ever?

Another Friday, another FTSF.

Join in the fun!

“One of the most embarrassing things I ever did was…”

Go door to door asking for a sanitary napkin for a friend.

This takes me back to the time when we had just entered teens and were unprepared most of time for our chums to come visit us each month. Call it miscalculation of converting 28 days to 30 day or 31 days.

My friend had an Oopsie moment, and I was living in India at that time. It was evening time, and are parents were not home, thus the house was locked. We had no cash in our hand. What to do?

We used to live in a gated community thus, thought of going door to door and asking for protection for my friend.

Question was how to start a conversation with someone we don't know

We went in a group. I was supposed to do the talking since my friend was quite embarrassed already.

Rung the bell of one apartment. It was answered by a male. He seemed to be in his late teens. I asked him about his mom.  He was confused since we did not know him. However, called out to his mom, and continued to stand there since we were foreigners to them.

I asked her mom to come outside so that the boy does not listen. But, he kept accompanying her with the thought of protecting her, I guess.

I started my babbling, "Hello Aunty. How are you?" I tried to be friendly. But, she was confused. She had a ladle in her hand, which indicated that she was in the middle of cooking and wanted me to come to the point.

I realized from her body language. My friend was holding my arm. I squeezed her hand to release my tension, and continued, "Aunty, would you happen to have an extra napkin?"

She looked back at her son, and asked him to get a napkin from the kitchen. Her son steps in, and she turns around to go inside. I stop her. The darn son hears that and comes back outside. I had no choice but to pretend he is invisible, and I continued"No, that kind of napkin. Can we get one sanitary napkin?" I did not want to embarrass my friend by pointing a finger at her. Thus, just stood there for the lady's reaction.

The lady was quick to understand and was extremely courteous. She nodded and went in.

Her son just stood there and was giving us quirky smiles. We pretended not to respond to them. The lady got one sanitary napkin in a bag and handed it to us. My friend took it from her, and we thanked her and scooted off.

As the years rolled by, the boy recognized me as THE girl who came by asking for "that" thing.
It sure did embarrass me for a lot of years, but now as I look back, would define it as BOLD :)

Mantra for today: Good actions can never go wrong.
