Good Bye!

"Take these! Don't need them, now!" Maggie offered to return a pair of earrings to her friend, Pam.

"Are you kidding me! Wear them. These suit you more than when on me!" Pam commanded and pushed her hand away.

Hesitant Maggie kept it back but was still very reluctant.

Days turned into a week.

One fine morning Pam got the news of Maggie's demise.

Devastated Pam could not digest the news.

She pondered, 'Maggie offered to return my jewelry. I should have inquired the reason rather than brushing it off quickly.' she sobbed silently, 'Could have said my Goodbye.'

Spotlight: The Time is Now by Deep Downer

The Time is Now

by

Deep Downer

BLURB

What possibly could an Ex-Major, an Ex-College Professor, a bookstore manager, and a college student have in common? Has fate brought them all together to rekindle some old flames or to start an entirely new one?

The Time Is Now is a short, sweet, unusual, un-cliched, and a mature love story. With just four main characters and one locale, the story is like a leisurely walk around the park on a pleasant summer evening that relaxes you and recharges you at the same time. It is sure to leave you with a mirthful feeling in the end and possibly moist eyes too.

Wanderlust

Travel is defined as moving predictably.

When a man decides to go on an excursion, he plans out every minute detail such as which hotel, car rental, which places to tour, and if possible even purchase the tickets of a tour or an expedition if it gets sold out quickly.

Time is not a factor since the To-Do list is put on hold and we can practically watch the sunrise and the sunset. Time our breakfast, lunch, and dinner all according to our needs and wants. However, what memories we collect from such travel is not in our hands even if minute details have been taken care of!

Any trip can be an eye-opener cause they always tend to teach us something in the end.

Man Proposes, God Disposes === Aldous Huxley

I remember making this road trip to India when I was a teenager. We were taking an excursion towards Jaipur, a city in Rajasthan.

We had rented a car and hired a driver. While he was driving the car, my family was sitting and enjoying the ride and the sights around the town.

It was a hot summer afternoon, and Rajasthan is known for its' high temperatures cause of the desert. However, we had our windows rolled up, and the air conditioner was on, with music in the background.

I was in the back seat near the window, enjoying the music and feeling relaxed with the fresh air surrounding me.

Suddenly, there was a loud noise, and my reflexes were sharp enough to turn and hide my face. A person had thrown a stone towards our car, and it hit my window. The shattered glass was all around me. Our driver was quick enough to screech his brakes on time, to avoid a mishap on the road.

He was quick to take an exit to the nearest hospital while I lay still since did not want any of the glass to penetrate further into the skin. That moment, while he was driving, I could feel the warm air blowing through that open window, and felt the changes in temperature and how my body was laying there vulnerable to the circumstance.

No man has control over mishaps. One moment I was enjoying the cool temperature, rustic sighting, majestic architecture with fond company, and the second moment the same body was exposed to brittles, was tensed, mind became restless and agitated.
Although we try hard to make our trips memorable and fun, no journey is perfect.

Thank God, my wounds were not harsh, and I recovered in no time. We toured the city. No doubt the city was still the same old but my perception had changed as I was cautious all the time.

Returned Home with Memories.

Clap your Hands!

The learned have taught us and shall continue to preach, "Happiness is a state of mind!

I am happy when things go my way, however; the situations are usually never in our hand.

Man proposes God disposes.

We want to turn left at a certain junction, but life throws lemons, apples, and oranges at us.
We pause.
We are dejected, and we turn right instead.

No doubt that path is so gloomy since it was not our decision. But, to embrace the situation is considered wise.

So be it!

We stretch those muscles around our lips and force a smile. The society terms it happiness!

A smile is happiness you'll find right under your nose. Tom Wilson

The peer pressure is such that we live under makes us embrace what the society tags us as. Some cases it is in our favor, however; most of the cases it is not. After a couple of chokes, we ingest the problem and try to carry on. Alas! the situation has still got us constipated.

But, man is so resilient that he continues to row his boat even though the muscles ache, the oars have cracked up.

'Giving up' should never be in thy dictionary since each breath is precious.  To be gifted a human machine is an out-of-the-world experience, being mindful of what comes our way allows us to use the intellect.

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

This intelligence if used can help us cement the cracks that have developed due to some failures, ruptures or inadequacies.

Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. T. S. Eliot

To learn to take a U-turn or pause at any junction just shows how adequate you are to bear upon the challenges. No doubt when that event turns in your favor..happiness becomes unlimited.

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”
― Dalai Lama XIV

It's the feeling like touching the Mars and coming back without paying a single dollar from your hard earned money.

“Folks are usually about as happy as they make their minds up to be.”
― Abraham Lincoln

Next time an adversity comes your way; clap your hands. I will assure you with the clap will come a solution!

A Turn of Event!

"I hate my life!" Jaya kept growling with anger teary-eyed as she walked with stern steps towards a mid-sized wall that faced the ocean.

She climbed the wall and eyed her home with a sulk; then looked towards the ocean.

"I do not belong here!" she closed her eyes and drew in a deep breath to take the plunge.

Just then her face got wet by the sea mist. That made her freeze on her drastic step.

She was in tears.

Again!

This time for good since memories of Love, Care, Play and Laughter with family changed her mind.

Dear Life,

I get it. You are fond of sending shitstorms my way.

I lost my parents and grew up with one relative after another.

A few months into my marriage, I discovered my husband in my best friend’s bed.

Well, guess what? You made me one heck of a survivor! The joke's on you.

Now this ‘hot’ Doctor you sent my way-the one who moved in next door to my stepbrother--don’t think I will be fooled by his charm like everyone else who is eating out of his hand.

His smart quips, teasing words and piercing gazes do not scare me. I see him for the man because of whom I experienced several ‘firsts’--my first accident, my first ride in an ambulance, and not proud to say it, but my first arrest!

I may not be able to get even with you Life, but I will get even with the Doc! It should be easy for he does have a habit of popping up wherever I go.

Yours insincerely,

Danika

Darn Memories!

"Thank heavens it broke!" Jules said with relief as she raised her hands in jubilation.

She was quick to call for help to clean up the mess.

As the helper was collecting the pieces that got scattered around the room; Jules watched with a keen eye.

Her fragile grey neurons of 80 years old were quick to make synapses as that cup's history took her to her home surrounded with laughter, and then to an old age home all alone.

Memories were threatening to overwhelm her, but she would be seen fighting them with an expletive now and then.

In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about shards. You can write about the pieces, the item they once were, or who picks them up and why. Go where the prompt leads. Join in the fun at CarrotRanch
