Wordless Wednesday #94

Tolerance!

Endurance!

Patience!

We have lost it all. Could blame it on the age we are living in where everything is operated with a switch of a button.

We want instant solutions, but not prepared to work towards it!

My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.John F. Kennedy

Blurb

Travel journo, Kairavi Krishna (Kay) has had it with men. After a series of disasters (losers, philanderers, leeches, mama's boys and possessive psychos), she is all too tempted to walk out on the prospect of ever finding love. Accompanied by her best friend and flat-mate Baani, she sets off for Goa, hoping to get away from her miserable love life and vowing to stay clear of the male species.

Goa however, has a host of surprises in store for her. Ricky, her pesky ex-boyfriend, is busy painting the town red with his hot new girlfriend. Now what is poor Kay to do, other than overdose on vodka, smoke pot, get an outrageous tattoo and fall off the hotel balcony? She wakes up in the hospital to the tender ministrations of Dr.Vivian D'Mello--young, suave and handsome as hell. Will Kay stick to her guns or will she fall for his ridiculously sexy charms? And what's up with the mixed signals he's giving out?

My Review

Done with Men (DWM) is a romantic novel and the setting where the majority of the plot revolves around is a hospital, but the vibes of injury, blood, or surgery are not felt thus, making a reader stay in a comfort zone while the character, Kairavi is healing from her fall and romancing the doctor who is mending her.

The protagonist, Kairavi tells her own story and is a confident young lady who has not been very fortunate in finding love. Her carefree attitude kept me fixated as I enjoyed a few giggles over a few episodes one such where she fell off the balcony and had to be hospitalized.

Honestly, the story line is regular but the author has balanced it with a few guffaws that made my cheek muscles stretch involuntarily.

But, then there was a slight glitch that I could not digest well. The climax could have been a little more crisp. Kairavi being a well educated, up to date and contemporary woman falls into a misunderstanding when the man she loves goes out to buy a ring with a girl who is supposed to be his fiance. I paused for a bit and wanted Kairavi to go and approach Vivian (cause according to the character evolved by the author, she could have done it) and ask point blank about their relationship rather than getting upset about it, and trying to avoid him.

The author, Shuchi's way of writing is jaunty, and that made the whole book appealing and engaging till the end. Thus, giving it a 4 stars.

I would recommend this book to any patron who loves reading about flings since it is a fanciful story.

A Mixed Bag

Every morning seeds are poured into the bird feeder. There is an assortment of seeds thus, attracting birds of all sizes.

Through their constant chirps, I can get a feel of their happiness, and good spirits as a result pigeons, sparrows, blue jays and crows are pecking upon at the same time. Contentment is never in their charts. Thus, they continue to feast upon and not get frenzied by the human company until I tripped over a sparrow, thus making the flock fly away.

I carefully picked up that feeble bird and decided to nurse it back to health.

Tornado Giveaway 2: Book No. 12: JAYA: AN ILLUSTRATED RETELLING OF THE MAHABHARATA by Devdutt Pattanaik

Name of the Book : JAYA: AN ILLUSTRATED RETELLING OF THE MAHABHARATA
Author: Devdutt Pattanaik

Read some reviews:

1. Tnahsin Garg
2. Abinav Agarwal
3. Dippy

The Story :

High above the sky stands Swarga, paradise, abode of the gods. Still above is Vaikuntha, heaven, abode of God.

The doorkeepers of Vaikuntha are the twins, Jaya and Yijaya, both whose names mean 'victory'. One keeps you in Swarga; the other raises you into Vaikuntha.

In Vaikuntha there is bliss forever, in Swarga there is please for only as long as you deserve. What is the difference between Jaya and Vijaya? Solve this puzzle and you will solve the mystery of the Mahabharata.

In this enthralling retelling of India's greatest epic, the Mahabharata originally known as Jaya, Devdutt Pattanaik seamlessly weaves into a single narrative plots from the Sanskirt classic as well as its many folk and regional varians, including the Pandavani of Chattisgarth, Gondhal of Maharastra, Terukkuttu of Tamil Nade and Yakshagana of Karnataka.

Richly illustrated with over 250 line drawings by the author, the 108 chapters abound with little-known details such as the names of the hundred Kauravas, the worship of Draupadi as a goddess in Tamil Nadu, the stories of Astika, Madhavi, Jaimini, Aravan and Barbareek, the Mahabharata version of the Shakuntalam and the Ramayana, and the dating of the war based on astronomical data.

With clarity and simplicity, the tales in this elegant volume reveal the eternal relevance of the Mahabharata, the complex and disturbing meditation on the human condition that has shaped Indian thought for over 3000 years.
