Dear Life,

I get it. You are fond of sending shitstorms my way.

I lost my parents and grew up with one relative after another.

A few months into my marriage, I discovered my husband in my best friend’s bed.

Well, guess what? You made me one heck of a survivor! The joke's on you.

Now this ‘hot’ Doctor you sent my way-the one who moved in next door to my stepbrother--don’t think I will be fooled by his charm like everyone else who is eating out of his hand.

His smart quips, teasing words and piercing gazes do not scare me. I see him for the man because of whom I experienced several ‘firsts’--my first accident, my first ride in an ambulance, and not proud to say it, but my first arrest!

I may not be able to get even with you Life, but I will get even with the Doc! It should be easy for he does have a habit of popping up wherever I go.

Yours insincerely,

Danika

Darn Memories!

"Thank heavens it broke!" Jules said with relief as she raised her hands in jubilation.

She was quick to call for help to clean up the mess.

As the helper was collecting the pieces that got scattered around the room; Jules watched with a keen eye.

Her fragile grey neurons of 80 years old were quick to make synapses as that cup's history took her to her home surrounded with laughter, and then to an old age home all alone.

Memories were threatening to overwhelm her, but she would be seen fighting them with an expletive now and then.

In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about shards. You can write about the pieces, the item they once were, or who picks them up and why. Go where the prompt leads. Join in the fun at CarrotRanch

Spotlight and Review of Love and Curses by Sunita Saldhana

Love & Curses
by
Sunita Saldhana

BLURB

When Amber meets Shardul, her heart starts doing somersaults and it seems as if her body has forgotten how to breathe. She has never been so strongly attracted to anyone before. But beneath the physical attraction, there is something else that she struggles with. Why does he seem so familiar when she is sure she has never met him before? And why has she suddenly started waking up each morning with tears running down her cheeks, haunted by the same dream every night?

Shardul has been waiting for Amber forever. But fate conspired to keep them apart. He could not forget what she could not remember. Now that he had finally found her, would she open her heart to love or would he lose her forever?

My Review:

Love and Curses is a story of two lovers Amber and Shardul where destiny did not favor their union in the first place.

The author started the story with the background of Amber and her struggles allowing this character to get a warm spot in the reader's heart.

Then she peeled the layers off the past of the couple in a slow-motion rhythmic fashion showcasing all the emotions of Amber while she is fighting the attraction for Shardul in the present.

Shardul on the other hand is alluring her in many ways so that she could remember the past that he could not forget.

It's an interesting take to Hindu mythology of reincarnation. This is my first time reading this author, and 'am delighted for the time well spent in reading her short story.

Sacrifices make a Masterpiece!

Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do. – Pele

It takes me back to the days when I was a student. When board exams were around the corner; curfew would set in my home. The Radio and the television would be switched off. Not only was I cocooned to my room; but even my parents had cut off all ties with my extended family and friends on Sundays' and even talked in whispers. The only distraction would be the telephone; but even that my mom would keep the talk to the minimum and I would usually hear her end her talk with, "Let's meet after R's board exams."
x

The whole scenario was revolving around me and my schedule that at times I would get overwhelmed and pressured to do well. 'What if I don't the whole society will mock me' were the nightmares I would get. Dreams of dejection, mockery, and frowning upon were more than ever!

At times I would even confide in my mom asking her to not broadcast to the whole world, but then she had a very concise response. "You can't change them ever! They will even react if you succeed!"

That was an eye-opener!

My train of thoughts started chugging on the opposite track where the goal was bright and luminous accompanied by laughter and celebration. That brought a smile, but then I realized the journey to that goal is sweaty, toiled with hard labor and sacrifice of lots of Me time to grasp the fundamentals of physics, biology, chemistry, and mathematics. I gave up daydreaming and toiled along.

Days were numbered, but the goal made me smile so everything around me was temporary as I knew I wanted to latch on to that target.

Soon the exams were over. The wait time was up, and the results were out!

My hard work paid off!! I got into my dream college and today am happy at how my life turned out.

If a writer chooses to step away from social media to create a master piece. So be it!

Sacrifices made to attain that step are brief, but they are so worth it!

Conclusion: A dream doesn't become a reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work. Colin Powell

Is leaving the social media the right step for those who wish to focus on writing? Must writers stop interacting even in real life?#GoodWriting
