A Gnome named Ruch

Honestly, I had no clue which fairy tale creature I would like to be unless I searched for it and voila! There is a solution for every darn thing...The Internet led me to a fairy tale creature quiz.

After answering about ten questions, I was told that I should be a Gnome since I am as bright and active as this creature. Gnomes are wise and hand crafty, and supposedly I also have that quality.

Surprised!
Yes, Absolutely!

When someone measures your potential virtually and goes in-depth with your personality via just those few questions!

Amazing how I was handed the baton of what to be!

If I were a fairy tale Gnome, I would firstly bake lots of cookies, and not think twice prior to indulging myself followed by several cups of hot chocolate. To get to that size, I rather stretch the elasticity of the rubber band and venture into the unknown.

With that shape and size comes the bubbly personality, and thus the urge to always laugh, help and be cheerful 24 *7. Now, with that kind of character, I would have no stress, thus will be healthy and wise.

I don't know if that quiz was an actual me. A healthy happy living person or honestly wanting me to attain that kind of personality that will lead to a happy healthy me.

But, for now I will embrace the unknown and minus the calories intake while I shall try to adapt those beautiful characteristics towards a healthy and happy living.

Mantra for today: Bliss is unknown until it has been unveiled. Be aware of your surroundings to embrace it.

Review of Beloo Mehra's book, The Thinking Indian

Purchase Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WNBY6F4?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0

Beloo Mehra, the author of, "The Thinking Indian", has touched many sensitive topics such as Spirituality, Culture, Hinduism and discussed them very exquisitely via the teachings of Sri Aurobindo's Essays. Thus, giving justice to the title of her book.

This yogi who breathed his last in 1950 was not just a philosopher but also a freedom fighter who later on introduced his visions on human progress and spiritual evolution that till date man is battling to recognize.

Words by Sri Aurobindo: "Behind everything in life there is an absolute, which the thing is seeking after in its own way; everything finite is striving to express an infinite which it feels to be its truth."

Lately, I heard a discussion of "Does God have a Future" hosted by Deepak Chopra, Sam Harris and a few other high-ranking speakers and philosophers of our time.
Man is still curious, probing and searching the truth about the divine and although there is still a lot of theories behind the absolute energy as scientists investigate further via the channels of the school of medicine, and physics to uncover the "truth". There is still a handful who are a skeptic. Thus, continuing the saga of discussions, arguments and counter arguments.
Happy that awareness is around to keep that discussion going on!

Next she went about discussing Culture and explained how it can never be a social behavior, but it is much deeper. Her example of shootings in school, a university in the USA was bang-on! How the people in the USA blame it on the system and not an individual thus avoiding resentment or further bloodshed. Logical reasoning is what is keeping the USA from progressing versus taking things personally or in their hands esp over such sensitive issues.

Her take on Hinduism and the future of inter-religious harmony in India where she talks about the Sanatana Dharma and how it has influenced other religions via the philosophical take on Sri Aurobindo's essay gives justice to her reasoning.

The author, Beloo also justified some logic on Movies, Art and Culture thus, giving the reader primarily an Indian some food for thought. This book will help stimulate an Indian to start thinking on his own, to examine all the data points in the light of the truth, and make the right judgement.

Ending with a quote of Sir Aurobindo:
"It is the one who can fathom and learn the truth of the world by thinking more, searching more, labouring more, who will gain more Shakti."

The author has done a commendable job on highlighting some sticky and discriminating issues and given the backing of a philosopher's mindset thus, stamping it with an approval for its readers to venture into this world, and not resist in introspection.

Wordless Wednesday #102

Trees of all Shapes and Sizes exist on our beautiful planet. As we go about doing our business, we glance at their perfect imperfections while inhaling the oxygen they exhale.

The give and take relationship has existed for decades without any expectations!

Mantra for today: “I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.”

The Return...

Ira was staring beyond the window into those clouds that were white yet had so much to exhibit. Her eyes became moist followed by a parched throat while viewing.

"Excuse me!" came a gentle tap

Precipitously turned to her co-passenger who requested her to shut the window.

"Not Yet," she responded sternly, "I want the rays of the sun to enliven and motivate me to return home with good spirits."

Unperturbed Ira continued to gawk the clouds with the hope to find a message of, "Things have changed for the better, and All will be well at home!"

Mesothelioma and it's Awareness

In today's competitive world, there are only a few words that can make anybody's life come to a screeching halt.

Cancer is one such word.

Although sometimes it feels as if a flight attendant is offering, "Can, sir" but I wish it were that simple.

This word has gained so much popularity in all latitudes and longitudes of our planet that it normally does not need translation. As it creates havoc in the body by some cells that have broken the rules of division and thus, continue to create mayhem.

Result: This clan of unruly cells need to be curbed thus a particular human body goes into chemotherapy with the hope to destroy them. Sure, it sounds like any video game that kids play these days. But, I wish it was that simple.

The journey of chemo and radiation to kill those cells is painful while agonizing over the fear of your loved ones who are rooting over your welfare can be mind-blowing.

This story is about a young lady by the name of Heather Von St. James. She was diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma in November of 2005. This was due to an exposure of her dad's work jacket who was a miner and had worked with asbestos. The cancer was in the lining of her left lung thus, making the doctor declare that she had only about 15 months to live.

Such news was devastating since she was a new mom to a precious baby girl of three months, Lily. She needed a life. She wanted more breaths to be able to nurture her daughter and see her grow up into a beautiful young girl.

In her own words that touched my heart:
It was during those long sleepless nights that something replaced the fear: Determination. I wasn’t going to let the cancer win. We were doing everything we could to beat this.

A cancer diagnosis takes away so much in an instant. That loss of control you thought you had over your life is another fear so many face, and we do everything possible to get control of the situation. To some, that can be denial. Others try to learn as much as possible and research every single detail of what they’re facing. I speak from experience when I say that neither way is the healthiest thing to do, but you never know how you will react until faced with the situation.

I don’t know if I ever was in denial… perhaps a healthy case of naivety, but I didn’t deny what I was up against. I didn’t do too much research online because everything I read had me dead and buried within a couple of years. My course of action was to spend as much time with my daughter and family as much as possible, and pray a lot.

10 years later, I can look back and learn a lot about my fears. I now say that fear is an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real. If you take a long hard look at fear, that is exactly what it is. It builds up to eclipse every rational thought, and when it comes time to face those fears, you realize that they are not what you thought.

When I faced my fears, I found out I was stronger than I ever imagined. 15 years ago, if you told me what I would face and what would happen, I would never have thought I could make it through. But I didn’t do it alone. I had the love and support of my husband every step of the way. Family and friends were there in my darkest times, and most importantly, I had my faith.

I encourage you to face your fears. I still have them, and will the rest of my life. Fear of my cancer coming back, fear of my husband getting sick, fear of my daughter getting sick… so many that if I let them take over, I would never be able to breathe. So I don’t let them, and I exhale.

She will celebrate a decade as a survivor from this heart-wrenching disease in February of the coming year!  She wants people to be aware of Mesothelioma and its number one cause.

Asbestos exposure is the primary cause of mesothelioma cancer. Inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers may cause an inflammation of internal tissue and disrupt organ function that leads to the development of mesothelioma.

Approximately 80% of mesothelioma cases can be attributed to asbestos exposure. Other potential risk factors include zeolites and radiation exposure.
An estimated 20 million people in the U.S. are in danger of developing mesothelioma at some point in their lives.
The latency period between first exposure to asbestos and developing mesothelioma is typical between 20 and 40 years.

For decades asbestos manufacturers and producers of commercial and consumer goods have known the dangers of asbestos and yet support it's continued use, even to this day around the world. Those affected by these products and exposure to asbestos now suffering from mesothelioma and asbestos related diseases face expensive legal battles against companies that knowingly exposed hardworking men, women and their families to this dangerous toxin. For those struggling, one option is exercising their legal rights with a competent mesothelioma lawyer, to help with both deciding if this is the right step, fully learning their legal rights and how to protect loved ones for the future.

There is an additional link for information about malignant mesothelioma that has been brought up by a lung cancer survivor who also fell victim to asbestos, Virgil Anderson who after a diagnosis of mesothelioma continued to fight for his life with a positive attitude.

As the saying goes: Prevention is better than cure. Let's be aware of our surroundings and be cautious of what we inhale since the kind of air we breathe in today will be the reason of our safe and healthy life tomorrow.

Mesothelioma is a preventable cancer. For Lung Cancer Awareness Month, please spread the word about the dangers of asbestos and together we can help save lives.

Let's try to avoid any more of Heathers' and/or  Virgils' who  fall victim to such 'can be avoidable' problem.

Mantra for today: We have to be in the present to be able to invoke awareness within us!

Wordless Wednesday #101

These pictures are courtesy my friend and photographer at Seema's Photography.

The last super moon total lunar eclipse occurred 33 years ago. Thus, making most of us realize that this is an unusual phenomenon that could become once in a lifetime affair for some of us.

Thus making us understand the importance of LIFE and appreciating it by embracing even the ugliness that unfolds on a daily basis. Cause life is all about being in the moment, and enjoying the many features it unwinds.

Mantra for today: One Life but many paths that help us wander, cherish, and admire. Live it up!

Wordless Wednesday #100

Today I complete a century in WW.

Credit no doubt goes to my readers, followers and blogger friends who have also joined in the fun with their exquisite clicks.

This journey started with a special friend, Cynthia, who inspired me to look beyond words. Her Wordless Wednesday's made me look outside my window, appreciate the flowers, trees, passersby and also find beauty in inanimate objects! Such was her impact that I continued this journey while she took a diversion.

My picture for today is: The Magnificence of Light.

How it illuminates all the area around it and absorbs the darkness.

Mantra for today: Positivity has no boundaries, and can engulf everything if the mind is open.

Thank you Cynthia!
